Nice carve. Have not heard many on here using Alder for carving.
Alder is common around here, the grain is tight and it takes a good carving, I do a lot of outdoor carvings too.

I use alder a lot. Like Perry said it carves very well with minimal fuzzies. I use what is considered cabinet grade and get it from a local guy who gets it from a commercial cabinet shop. The pieces are mostly end pieces to small for what they need. He gets it by the pick up load.Quote:

Alder is a special order in most wood shops here. Maple or Birch around this area. I work in a wood shop. The only one in this area. I get to play with wood from all around the world. The nice thing is the end cuts.;)Attachment 77293
