I needed a easy way to hookup my vacuum cleaner. I used a bare floor attachment from my shop vac, 2 small corner braces, thin sheet brass,
3/4 x 11 x2 oak board. It was easy.

I had a similar setup before and burned the shop-vac motor after 2 consecutive 8hr carve.
how big are the shop vacs you guys use? i am using a 3.5 hp craftsman with a similar set up with less than good results. I am thinking i need to step up to a 6 or more hp.
The majority of those who have a down draft or top mount dust collection system us dust collectors instead of shop vacs. With DC you get more total air movement. Shop vacs are good for cleaning up the machine and the shop but like others have said they are loud to run, are not made to run for long periods of time, the filtration system plugs up faster than a DC system and in general are not made for dust collection system..
