I had been laid up for the last 4 monthes and have not carved anything
but today I went to carve something and the machine called
for me to put the new
1/16" bit, the only problem is that I have not purchased it yet, I went back to the computer and it does not give me the option of changing to the 1/8" carving bit. Am I doing something wrong?

Hey El'

The carving bit that came with your unit IS the 1/16" CARVING bit. The shank is 1/8" but the tip tapers to 1/16. The bit you see advertised as "new" is a cutting bit used for cutting out patterns all the way through. Hope this helps. Happy Carving!

Sounds like you're getting confused between a "carving bit" and a "cutting" bit.

The carving bit that came with your machine is named 1/16" Carving Bit...the cutting bit that came with your machine is named 1/8" Cutting Bit.

I think your machine asked for the 1/16" Carving Bit, correct? (Try running the project again and double check to see - my bet is the machine is prompting you correctly.)

NOTE: There is not a 1/8" Carving Bit publicly available yet - so your machine won't ask you for that - not at the present time, anyway.

Just to clarify what SeaCapt97 said, the shanks are not 1/8" , they are 1/4" .The 1/16" carving bit tapers from 1/4" to 1/16".

Guess I just had the 1/8 figure stuck in my head. Like I tell my lady . . . "you know what I meant." Thanks for clarifying.
