Henry,

Just to check that out for myself, I carved the attached.

Hi Henry,

As Doc showed you can get pretty small,
one way is to cut a carved region in a board to make it a sled.
I've done it with a pieces of 1/2" x 3" x 9" MDF to carver pieces 1/8" x 1/2" x 1 1/2" stock.
You could probably go smaller if you work at it, just remember stay under the rolls.

Are these small letters carved with a 60 degree V-bit? Also you'd think they couldn't be too deep and hold the closed curve areas. Then there is the question of paint filling and sanding off the residual paint. With letters a certain expectation needs to be met, whereas with a design there is an acceptable artistic leeway.

Here's some text carved with 90-"V" Groove Bit in 1/4" White Corian,it's not been cleaned out yet, upper case in both 3/8" and 1/4"
It will be pretty easy to paint in the text, and sand the surface clean.
