Okay, I'm slow! But, how do you get a .ptn file into the carvewright program? Import doesn't work, it says "not a graphics file", and I can't find any other selection. Enlighten me, please, I've got a guy at work asking me to do a pattern on the edge of a mantle he's building, and he saw that presidential stars pattern on Carvewright's pattern depot. He's willing to pay for it, but I really need to know how to use a .ptn before I can tell him to buy it.

Thanx

Try Importing the .ptn file directly into you Pattern Tool List
if you have CW Designer open, by
opening your pattern list by clicking on the icon that looks like a Shell
Then click on the folder heading that you want to add the new .ptn file to
Click on Import and select the .ptn file and it will be added

Ps. nmlhaus, Welcome to the CW Forum

Thanks Ray, you finished my thought for me http://forum.carvewright.com/images/smilies/icon_razz.gif

You should be able to double click on the ptn. file and it will open with the machines software and you can save it to your Favorites.
hope this helps

You can also use the Open File then under Files of Type at the bottom select .ptn, then navigate to the folder where your .ptn files are saved.

I would also suggest taking a look at the help file included with Designer. While parts of it are a bit dated it does a very good job of explaining the basic concepts. Also, please take a look at all the tutorials and Tips&Tricks available at the main CW website under the 'Support' tab: http://carvewright.com/, these will help you avoid the most common 'pilot errors' that new owners encounter.
