View Full Version : line width for inlay

Did proper searches on the forums, and didn't find anything that addresses this question.

In Designer I can select the Line Segment Tool and place a straight line on the board. I chose the 1/8 straight bit to do the carving. And I chose the depth to be 1/8 inch deep. I simply want to inlay boarders on a sign.

However

What I hoped to do was to tell the program to make the line 1/4 inch wide.

IF this is doable, how can I persuade the software to persuade the hardware to cut a line 1/4 inch wide by 1/8 inch deep?

IF there is no provision in the software to do this, Why not?

Yes, this can be done by hand routering, but I would have thought that something as simple as this would be covered in the software.

Thanks for any help.

What your describing is typically called a pocketing operation. While it is not built into Designer it is pretty easy to create. Just draw two lines 1/8" apart. This will give you a 1/4" wide finished path.

You can also draw a rectangle 1/8" wide and it will straighten up the ends that would be left by the round bit. Or you could just fool the machine and replace the 1/8" bit with a 1/4" bit and just draw one line.

Thanks a lot for your very fine suggestions. Any of those will work.
