You select the path then the "Cut Path" tool. This will automatically cut through the board and leave tabs to hold the work piece in place. You can then edit how many tabs you want and how big of tabs. You can also select "Max pass depth" if you don't want it to make the cut in 1 pass. You can also set the inset (ie offset of the path) either positive or negative depending on if you want it to move further away from the path or closer to the path, max setting is .125. Default cut is on the inside of the path, click flip cut and it puts it on the outside of the path. Inset will then offset it from one of those 2 positions.

I would also suggest reading through all the back issues of Tips&Tricks: http://www.carvewright.com/cms/tips-and-tricks, they cover all the basic operation of the machine and will answer many of the questions common to new owners and they will also help you prevent the most common 'pilot errors'. Also take a look at all the other resources on the main CW website under the support tab: http://www.carvewright.com (http://www.carvewright.com/cms/tips-and-tricks).

Welcome Fubar05
It also makes a big difference if your using a sled or not. You may be cutting through you project and the sled.
You would'nt need to go 1/16" deeper, 1/32" would get it. This machine is very accurate.
