I just recently got my carvewright running after numerous trips back to the factory ( I wish i could use the frequent flyer miles my CW has) any way, after carving 4 projects i want to lubricate it. Where can I find help in how, where when etc to do this Thanks again for all your past help and support.

The most important is your flex shaft!... the Gunk industrial chain lube with moly is the way to go. If you do a search on flex shaft lube i am sure you will find more info than you can imagine. If you keep track of the temps on the shaft with an infrared thermometer, you can easily predict when it is time to lube. (I just happen to sell the thermometers if you are interested)...

Other lube items would include a touch of 3-in-1 oil wiped on the bit adapter occasionally to help with the Quickchuck problems, although cleaning it out regularly is as important as anything.

You may have to clean and lube the clutch on the head if the pressure gets out of control. You can check this with a set of bathroom scales. It should read about 85lbs.

If you are in a humid environment, or you go from freezing cold to warm, and there is a lot of condensation, watch for rust problems.. especially the leadscrews that move the head up and down. This will also affect the head pressure if you are fighting rust...

Remember, a Warm, Clean machine, is a happy machine...

Good luck, and happy carving!

The first places to look are the recently released "Care and Maintenance of the QuickChange": http://www.carvewright.com/cms/downloads, and the January 2008 Tips&Tricks: http://www.carvewright.com/downloads/tips/CarveWright_Tips_and_Tricks_Jan08.pdf.

Both of the above were found under the "Support" tab on the main CW website: http://www.carvewright.com/.

Making use of the forums 'Search' tool would also be a big help. Try searching for 'lubrication' or 'maintenance' and I'm sure you will find lots of information.

I'm using the Cranes Cam Lube with moly and am very happy with the running temp of my flex shaft - barely above room temp on my longest carve 4.5 hrs.

I just started to use Cranes Cam lube on my flex shaft. It seems to be working out fine. I have the outdoor sensor from an indoor/outdoor digital thermometer taped to the outside of my shaft and it displays a running temperature. After about an hour the temp get up to about 95 degrees F and then usually hovers there.

On my QC I use 3 in 1 oil. I also put a dab on the bit holder before each carve.

And, finally, I use WD40 on the truck tracks.
