View Full Version : Easy way to carve a grid, like a checkerboard?

Could I get a little help on carving a grid into a board? Like a checkerboard pattern. I simply want to carve a series of lines into a board, about 1/8" deep lines. And, is the 1/16" ball nose the best bit for this?

I did this one using the CW Designer Grid (Snap to setting at 1.5") and the Line Segment Tool
to copy and paste the Lines over the grid --less the 5 Minutes. http://forum.carvewright.com/images/smilies/icon_razz.gif

I think I would make the grid using the snap to grid function and use vector lines and carve using a V bit. But he ball nose might make a fainter, rounded line if that's desired.

I did look at the 60 Degree Bit while I was drawing it,

Ken, your solution is simple enough, and I tried doing just that before you posted your solution for me...but, when I draw a line, using the Line Segment Tool, the "depth" box is inactive, so I can't give the line a depth.

Then I figured out, that until I assign a bit to the line, I can't give the line a depth....so I got it now. Thanks again.

Well, normally I'd guess you're gluing up two different species of wood....but this is a CarveWright forum....so are you carving a texture on the top of the darker squares?
