New user here on my first project a sled made of .5” MDF about 15 minutes in to it I went to vacuum the dust from project as suggested and I found a small piece of black plastic laying on the project.
I got out my inspection mirrors and was unable to determine where it came from.
I let the carving continue vacuuming it several more times no new parts floating around and the project completed successfully.
I am including a picture of the plastic it appears to be broken on the 2 sides indicated by arrows pointing at it.
I am now on my 3rd project and have had no other problems that I can see or hear.
Should I be worried?
Thanks In advance for any information.

I have had my CW 3 days now and have done 5 hours carving 5 hours cleaning 25 hours reading its been a wonderful 3 days I have not thought my job once until now as I am getting tired.

One last comment Thanks to Jason at LRW LittleRedWoodshop
http://www.littleredwoodshop.com where I got my CW from.

Shawn,

Welcome to the forum and the dusty world of the CW!

That piece of plastic could have come from anywhere....since you have done a thorough visual inspection and your machine is operating just fine - I wouldn't be overly concerned. Maybe save it in a plastic bag for future reference. I had a piece of plastic floating around in my machine when I first set it up...doesn't look like yours and still haven't figured out where it came from.

If it was a piece of metal I would get VERY concerned! Clean, clean, clean and continue the visual inspections! Enjoy and let the sawdust fly!

It may be part of the z pack cooling fin. Check the top of the right end of the z motor.

I inspected my machine, and saw no sign of where the part may have come from. The fins on the z motor are alumnium not plastic. I removed and cleaned the wheel wipers on the z and the y axis. They show some ware but are still effective.

Sorry for the mis-direction.

I believe that is the bottom of the front blow tube ,(i think that is what they call it) It looks like it deflect air. Mine came off a while back and it did not affect anything so far as i can tell

I believe papawbummie has it right. It looks like a piece of the blow deflector that is under the blow down spout. This piece is very important as it keeps the bottom Z idler pulley from seizing due to duct.

Thanks for all the information I still cannot find any place where the piece came from. all ducts seem to be intact I will save the piece and should I ever need to send CW in for repair I will include it.
no problems so far & hopefully we will all keep it that way.

srrutle,

There have been a few posts about folks finding odds and ends even extra parts in side the machine or shipping cartons
Nuts, bolts, screws, yep even pieces of plastic.
After a few trip back and forth to Texas, I Myself have accumulated a small collection of stuff
including all of the above plus a Sharpe fine line marker and Crank Handle plastic ball and 3 extra bolts to hold call on it. http://forum.carvewright.com/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif
