Is it possible to use something like

http://store.qualitydist.net/dml-125.html

to do fine text in the CW? The 60 degree bit doesn't give fine enough detail on small text such as for the attached .mpc.

I'm my opinion Dremel bits are designed to be cheap. They work pretty well for their designed purpose on a hand tool. Precisebits.com now offers all their 1/16" tools with a high-precision 1/4" bushing: http://precisebits.com/products/carbidebits/ShankBushing.htm

I bought a few to try about a month ago but have been too busy to do so. With CW now supporting a 1/16" bit it opens up the possibilities of experimenting with some smaller bits with shallow cuts.

Hey Kevin,

I've tried a few small bits on Clear Acrylic and Corian with some success.
I found basic fonts work best -- Haven't tried anything fancy yet.
I only use them with Centerline set for 60 Degrees and fib to the machine by placing a shim
on the surface of the project where the bit touches down.
Not that I recommend it, so be careful Ya don't want to mess up you machine.

Are those adapters from rjustice? I just e-mailed him to see if he has anything.

Yep,

I ordered some 1/8" adapters from Ron as soon as they where available
along with a few of his bits, and a set QC Chuck tools. http://forum.carvewright.com/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif

These are the end mills That I have been using in my router setup for inlay and fine detail work. They are not cheap and have lasted 8 years so far.

I don't know how well they will work in the CW but I do know that they are better and last longer then the dremel bits.

There is a wide slection, 2 flute, 4 flute and different profiles with the upcut and down cut spirals.

Hey,

Here's one I forgot I had, found it in the bottom of my Bit Box!

Guess I could carve a few lines text on my Pencils now. http://forum.carvewright.com/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif

Is e-mail the only way to get in touch with rjustice?

Also about how long does it usually take for him to get back to you? I need an adapter fairly soon.

Hi Kevin,
the engraving bits that i make do a really nice job on this type of small text. they are 1/8 shank bits, and fit in the 1/8 bit adapters that i make. If you click on the email link below that will open up an email to me. I usually get back to people the same day, but i havent had time to be on the forum very much lately.... Thanks for your interest!

Happy Carving,

Ron
