I was wondering if you have to buy the kit of bits that carvewright or sears sells ,or can you just use bits bought from some where else . I havent gotten a chance to get into my compucarve(that i got thursday ) but will next week and was just wondering this.

I didn’t have a full set of CW Bits when I first started carving with my machine, all I had were the two that came with the machine. After a month or two I ordered a couple extra tapered carving bits and 1/8” cutting bits, just in case I broke or damaged one. Then I bought the 60 and 90 V-Grove Bits when I got CW Centerline for doing some signs and Text on Plaques. Next was the 3/8” straight Bit to Calibrate the machine if it needed it. (A couple times so far) I have my own plunge type carbide Bits that work fine in the Machine, plus I bought several “3 packs” of ¼” and ½” Bit adapters form Sears. Most of the edge trimming and OG. Cuts, I do on my table router to same cut time on my Machines Cut Motor. http://www.carvewright.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif

I use other bits with my machine. They need to be Plunge Type bits ONLY.

Frozenknuckles, I used any regular carbide bits I can get for a good deal.

Sorry, I may not have said what I was thinking. http://www.carvewright.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_confused.gif

What I meant was not to use router Bits with Roller Bearings on them.

Dont forget that you can also use center cutting carbide dremel bits, or the 1/8 shank tooling that i offer, along with the high precision 1/8 bit adpaters... Drop me an email by clicking on the address below if you would like info...

Thanks,

Ron
