I just open Windows Explorer, navigate to the Windows/Font directory and drag the font file into it.

You must install the font to the \windows\fonts folder. You should be able to right click the font file and see 'Install' as an option.
Then open designer and the font will be available.
Or, just drag the sucker there as Michael suggested.

I went through about 1000 fonts on some free font sites looking for a match for a project and grabbed some Christmas, Halloween, Wingding and Script Fonts to play around with. Worth looking at them.
