i wondered through a flooring store today and in the back by the bargin rack was a bunch of boxes of one of a kind solid hardwood flooring.
hmmmm i said i wonder if i could make a stupid offer for a couple and see if they would take it

guess what? they did

i just got home and hauled it in the basement

a little over a buck a square foot of flooring is worth a little messing around.

if you do this take your bandsaw and saw off any prefinishing that is on it before planing it. it is really hard on planer blades.

but the way i figure i should end up with about 1/2 to 5/8 thick when im done.

may not be worth the time but ill keep everyone posted

Or put a Shelix cutter head on your planer & jointer and smooth all your glue ups worry free.

supershingler, you are absolutely right! These can be a great source of inexpensive material.

I have been using pieces of scrap flooring for quite some time now to make desk name signs around the office. These little projects are easy, quick and most of all cheap!

The pictures below are examples.
