Here is a new pattern the I carved today. the wife is painting it now. The pattern is from the photo of this instrument before varnish and setup.

Just completed another carveing of this pattern and it came out worse then the first.

Does the size of the carve make a difference, IE height, verse area?:(

Not sure if this is what you're asking. My first carving included a wine glass which I shrank from just over 8" high to around 3" high. The stem of the glass came out with a knife edge! One of many things I'm learning about.

I found the same problem when carving a smaller than original pattern. If the height is kept the same and the size reduced the taper of the carving bit will reduce the width of some edges. My pattern was of ladyslipper wild flowers and the stems became a knife edge. I reduced the height from 100 to 20 and got the proper stem width for the size.
