I think I will on now move on to a different material to carve on, I was thinking I would like to try corian.
what are some of the pit falls with this material.
1. where can I get the corian, I read some of the post and some suggested
the local counter top places are there any other suppliers. what thickness should I look for?
2. Does this material cause a lot of dust while carving?
3. How do you cut this material after you have finish carving it,
can you use a table to cut it?
any comments or remarks on this subject would be helpful before I take the plunge.

thanks ahead of time

i do a few carvings in corian

mostly plaques and such out of corian

i use the cw to make patterns out of particle board and the rough cut the pattern on the band saw and then use a pilot bit in the router to do the final
cutting with . it leaves the edges pretty smooth.

carving letters in centerline work really nice with this
all of my corian is 1/2" think but i think i can plane it down on my surfacer to thiner if you need it to be

its is f un to carve as it doesnt chip out like some wood does

but the downfall is polishing it up after working it

i have a bowling ball spinner that i resurface bowling balls with ths has different grit sandpaper with from 80 grit to 1200 grit that are wet sanding pads

i just spray the corian with some water to just get it wet and take a disc and throw it on my orbital sander(be sure you in a gfi outlet)
and start o ut with 80 and work my way up to the polish that i desire
it work great

i love corian to work with and you can use all your woodworking tools to work it

below is a plaque i made to put my grandsons picture in

i cut the pattern out of part. bd and the used the waste to make a sled
to carve the oval in

carve your text before you cut out the picture area as the carvewright will give you an error message in measuring if you do it first( dont ask how i know lol).

i then spray paint the letter what ever color look best with the corian and
sand off the paint on the flat and then start polishing.

let me know if you have any questions

I haven't tried to carve Corian....yet. But, I was able to find some on Ebay at what seemed to be decent prices.
