I was given a .PCM file for a silhouette drawing and want to try to convert to
a pattern .PTN file. Cw want except the .PCM file when I try to open it up.
does any body have any input ,if I can convert the file to a jpeg or any other file that CW will accept.

any help would be great.

The only PCM file I know about is an audio file, which of course, could not be converted to a pattern! (PCM is an acronym for "Pulse Code Modulation")

The .PCM file is for a Plasma Cam machine. this machine cut steel patterns
from files much like CW does for wood.
I was hoping I could convert one of these files so I could carve some silhouettes.
There are some great files that would look great in wood.

Hello,

Wow - they used a file extension that was already in use for audio applications! (Somebody didn't do their research before settling on the file extension.)

Be that as it may, you must contact someone who owns the software that created the pcm files in the first place. The Designer software can read common graphic formats (as well as some not so common ones). Here is a list of the ones that Designer can recognize:

BMP
JPEG
JPG
PNG
MNG
GIF
XPM

If someone can convert your silhouette PCM files in the original Plasma software to one of those graphic formats, then you can open it in Designer, then save it as a PTN file.

Another possibility - if a pattern maker (with some free time!) has a photo of the silhouette(s), then he/she could simply re-draw it in a vector program, then fill the vector with a solid color (say, black), save it as a PNG with a transparent background, then import the graphic into Designer.
