I would appreciate any help on carving photos in acrylic. Bought 8x10 cast acrylic (white), imported a photo converted it to grayscale and inverted it. Then put it in a MDF sled. The acrylic was 1/4", depth was .100 and height was 100. Carving looked ok but was not very deep. I've read where carving depth over 100 is very hard on the machine. Carving took 52 mins. I have a few questions: 1) Will changing depth higher accomplish anything 2) Is carving with a depth of .125 or .150 on acrylic stressfull (harmful) to machine or bit
3) Any recommendations on depth and height would be appreciated. Thanks

Lots of info if you do a forum search for lithopanes.

ThanksI've done a lot at the depth of .120-.150 and have never had a problem you will get quit a bit more light coming through @ the higher depth. All that being said i was using version 1.26 i have not done any with 1.30. Hope that help a little.

I haven't done any lithos, yet, but all I've read caused me to jot some numbers down and stick them in my wallet for future ref..

Set your depth to .15 and your height to 400.

For what it's worth.

i've done nearly 20 lithos in 1/4in corian with depth settings as high as .175 (normally .15) without problems. i do a thorough cleaning with wet/dry and air compressor after every use. i also set the hight at 999. FYI, corian produces much nicer results than acrylic in my opinion.

additional tips:

when u import an image into cw software, unclick the "edge floor" (or whatever its called), and after importing the image into software, turn off feathering feature.

Thankyou. I'm going to try 1.5 depth and a height of probably 400 or 999.
