Just got my machine!!! Did some test patterns. Working great. Question. Is centerline worth the 100 bucks for text? Would a down draft table help with the saw dust? I have a hunder more questions but want to get to know my machine a little better.

Hello welcome to the forum. The answer to all your questions (and more) can be found with the 'Search' tool. It's in the red toolbar at top of every screen. Try searching for centerline and see what you come up with. If memory serves there was a good thread about this subject about 3 weeks ago.

Sometimes search will answer your question outright; sometimes it halps you narrow down what your looking for and then you're able to ask a much more pointed question.

Down Draft will really cut down on your clean up.

It is worth the time to clean up after each carving.

Hope you enjoy you machine. It can do so many wonderful things.

Machine without the Centerline and Scanning Probe is kinda like a 'Vette without tires - it'll go, but not as well as it could.

Downdraft is the best $10 bucks you will spend, but make sure to do your homework regarding the proper way to seal your machine and the size dust collector you need.

Thanks guys. Will order center and probe tomorrow. Guess I won't be eating lunch for awhile. It's going to take all my lunch money. Another question. Is it nesary to keep the project under the rollers. Seems if I do that it uses alot of wood?

dainge,

If you have a chance, do a forum Search on "Sleds and Carrier Boards"
You'll find a ton of info on how to make and use them to save on wood.
Also check the CW Tips and Tricks for a full section on them.

Hello,

Many of your questions will be answered if you read the CarveWright Tips & Tricks Newsletters. Of particular importance for you, as a new user, are the Dec '07 and the Jan '08 issues. The material in those two issues will help you avoid very common "pilot errors" that new users often fall into.

The main source of "issues" is that the user fails to add the 7" to the board that is placed into the machine in order to keep the project under the rollers at ALL times. (EXAMPLE: if your "fake" board in the Designer software measures 10" long, the REAL board that you put in your machine MUST measure 17" long). Most of the so-called "problems" newcomers experience are self-imposed. Failure to observe the 7" Rule is a biggie - that can and will cause all sorts of totally avoidable problems. Follow the "rule" and all will be well.
