I've been using a program called "Printmaster" that's quite easy to use, has about a thousand fonts and can export as a .png file. It's VERY inexpensive on Ebay, especially if you get one of the older versions. It's got a ton of graphics too. Some of them aren't too detailed but I've found that too much detail in designer can make for a carving that's overwhelmed. I copied the fonts into my windows font file and now I've got three programs to use (Corel Draw, Designer & Printmaster) in addition to the standard windows stuff. Just thought I'd mention it! Pete

Hi Eagle Hollow,

This violin will :) designed in 3D and milled on the Carvewright it's 4/4" size but we can make them bigger or smaller now. I call it the Radius. plays and sounds really nice. the instrument is very lightweight, thickness of about 1/8 the wood is African mahogany.

I've been following LG's various posts for awhile now and I have to tell ya, he's one of the best in the forum in my opinion. There's a lot of talent here but a few blend artist and CW carver and do it WELL. Maybe someday when I grow up I can be one of those guys too. . . workin on it!!!! I'd show y'all what I've carved but none of my pics are small enough. Most are 400 Kb or so at the very least. Pete

Pete,

Just save them as jepg and in the "save a"s dialog box reduce the quality (compression) to around 75%. Then you can post them and they'll be big when we click on them.

Thanks for the tip ChrisAlb!!! Ok. . . let's try this: The attached file is a wing I carved by hand (rifflers & files) from a maple board for my son in law who's in the air force. I gave it to him when he married my daughter and I thought he was gonna cry. *G* Took me 8 months to finish. Think I'm patient enough to get my CW to work for me???

LG - that is fantastic! Love the flowing lines. Almost "sexy".

I've been toying with the idea of making something "musical" for some time now (I play keyboards), but haven't really taken time to design anything yet. Your fine work is definitely starting to inspire me along that line again!!

LG - Just saw your violin - beautiful. Standing applause from me. Glad to see there is someone else with a CW in Calif. Too bad you are way down south, I'd love to stop by and maybe get some tips.

two free and powerful programs to look at.

Gimp a photo editing software

Inkscape a graphic design software

Not simple programs to run but powerful and free.
