Carve Region within a carve region

I recently purchased my carvewright and love it, but I have one issue that I can't figure out. I have a 3/4 inch board that has a square carve region that is about 2" on each side and 1/4 inch deep. When I try to place another, 1/2" deep carve region inside the perimeter of the existing carve region, it does not show up on the view, or carve in the board. When i remove the initial 1/4" deep carve region, the second 1/2" carve regions is there and will carve, but i cannot get both of the to carve together. Any advice?

Make sure your 1/4" square is above the 1/2" one in the carving list on the left of your screen. Then, right mouse button on that 1/4" square and select "Merge Style" additive. Voila, a hole in a hole.
