Neat project,
From the the photo the detail really looks good!

WOW.... Never thought of that....... Now to play with my Tourist TWIST...... I was going to make some PLANT BUDDIES. A Bear, Deer, Eagle..... Carved in PVC Board mounted to a piece of pressure treated making a 90 degree angle. You sit a flower pot on it and the Bear is in front, covering the pot.... Making the Bear from Cement.... Hmmmmm You got me thinking..... Can I find a Cement Mixer on eBay????...... LOL....

Thanks for sharing.

I used fast setting concrete mix (premixed sand and gravel), nothing else was added. It set very hard within 1-2 hours.

Nice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was just reading this months HOME magazine and saw an article about a lady who is using concrete in tabletop designs.

http://www.theneststore.com/index.cfm?itemCategory=31434&siteid=249&priorId=31432&pid=31432

Check it out! Between the ideas and the going rate ($$$) it may just stimulate the E and W DNA strands! (E = Effort and W = Work) LOL

Happy 4th!

A wheel barrell and flat shovel works just fine to mix sack crete. 1 bag of crete and about 3 to 4 quarts of water is just about rite.

HT thanks for sharing the foam/concrete idea with us. I am going to take those Koi patterns you made me and try a fountain. Will carve one with the regular pattern, then make a mirror image one and make the reverse side. Will pour the concrete into them and etch in a channel before it dries to hard. Then feed a plastic tube into the channel before a glue them together to hook into my outlet tube on my pump I can adjust the flow.

Should make nice looking fountain running into the pond for us to enjoy. Might be able to use this idea for making plant pot for my water plants also. Will be a great way to make pot that fit the pond decor and blend in good.

so when you said pink foam, is there a certain type that you used? How did the machine do with this type of material, was it hard to cleanup?

By the way the idea is awesome ;-) I think its a really creative way of using the machine.

It looks like pink Owens Corning rigid insulation foam.

Yes, that's the stuff "pink Owens Corning rigid insulation foam". I get them at home depot, they normally stock .5", and .75" thick, 2" only available at some store.
It worked great, the machine cut it like butter. Clean up is also easy. A small shop vacuum will do a nice job.
If you carve a project that took more than 2 hours then you need to stop in a middle to vacuum out the dust.
I run a 1-1/2" hour project at .8" deep straight without any dusty problem.
Thanks

Awesome idea using the foam. I've been working on some ideas for making concreate mailboxes and was going to use wood for the molding. The foam should work much better. Thanks for sharing.

This looks great and is a very good idea. Did you use a release agent for the concret to fall out or was it just the foam all alone?

What about the "blue foam" it looks similar? Any luck with that or is the pink different? Also have you had any luck trying to implement text? Looks good great idea. Ill have to look at your patterns see what might be good for making some molds...

Blue foam at lowes is the same only different in color.
As for release agent, I used something un-enviromental friendly before but Jpaluck, a member of this forum told me about vasaline and it worked great. Petroleum jelly worked great also.

I wonder if that non-stick spay "PAM" would work ,like you spray on a skilit before cooking or is the foam too poures?
