Some time ago I posted about carving some door panels for a cabinetmaker in Missouri. Today he provided me with some pictures of the finished gun cabinet. The entire project is done in hickory. I really like the way he was able to preserve the fine details of the carvings. His client is thrilled and so am I to be a part of such a nice project. There's more pictures here: http://www.forums.woodnet.net/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=3738637&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=7&fpart=1&vc=1

Thanks for looking.

The hickory carved amazingly well. Zero chipout and the waste was more like timothy seed than sawdust. I was hesitant about carving it but will actually look forward to carving it again sometime.

That is a beautiful piece of work!

I have some hickory I picked up at a sawmill, just haven't really had anything to carve into it yet.

Jim,

The panels you made on your CarveWright came out beautifully and certainly blend in perfectly with the cabinet maker's fine craftsmanship. You made him look "that much better", thanks to your carvings! Congrats on your contribution to such a fantastic piece of work!

After reading the other post with what he did with those 12 gauge pieces sounds like Robert Yarger also had his hand in the secret compartment.

Jim,

The cabinet is beautiful and your carvings are a great addition to the project. They definitely tie into what is behind them. I bet you are very proud to have your carvings displayed on such a fine piece.

I just cut out my parts yesterday for a 10 gun unit. Your pics are timely and I think I'll go for 30-06 and 450 Marlin cases. Your work is fantastic. With the price of guns and the amount of squirrels out there if they were to steal the guys guns they would have to stop and think about taking the case as well. Just some great work and it shows how the CC can work with other tools to come up with some great finish products. Just a side note, If anyone wants a bagger to stuff and put on top of their shelf I've got plenty on our property and can't get rid of all of them.

Jim,

Everybody else has already used the descriptive words necessary to describe their feelings. A project like this one will be hard to top. I just don't see how that may be possible.
