Two-piece carve question

I'm planning on making a two piece carve then gluing the two halves together.

Does a pattern with one half on the board and the other "running" off into space cause any hiccups for the machine.

My shape won't actually be a pattern, it's an outlined font blown up to 18" square. The space inside the font will contain the Fireman's Prayer. The outside shape/font will be carved through the board creating a plaque.

I've made several "run off" carvings like you've mentioned. What I would do is create the pattern larger than the board settings (on an 11x8 board) and then outline and cut the pattern, and put in a larger board(18X11) to allow space for the brass roller and keep the pattern under rollers.
