Hi --I just put in a board --27" by 11.25 by 3/4 and after properly measuring the board, the machine started to knock when it was centering the bit.
I aborted the project, cleaned out everthing as best as I could (again) started again and now it stated to knock when it
measured the board.

Did I burn a bearing in the X- axis somewhere? Or is there something in the gears or belts that would make this kind of noise?

sounds like you may have a broken tooth on a gear somewhere.
If it was moving lengthwise on the board it would be one of the sandpaper drive gears maybe.

Mine just sounds like the gear is still trying to turn once the Z-truck homes.

Which axis is knocking? The X-axis (i.e. board moving) or Y-axis (back-forth), or Z-axis (up-down) ?

The x axis -- board moving . is something in the gears ?

The most common failure is a broken tooth on the X-axis drive. This is usually caused by a board getting jammed in the machine due to a long heavy board not being supported by additional rollers or the sliding guide plate being tight up against the wood. Search for a post by DigitalWoodShop called "Anatomy of", you'll find one with pictures of the X-drive taken apart.

Jef -- I't been a while since I've posted about my x-axis knocking -- and yes
it's the X - Drive Motor Mount Assembly with a few broken teeth --
I'm apprehensive to take the machine all apart - do I have to take the head and side off to replace this part ? Or is this not such a big deal If I have the parts list (exploded view)?
