routing a scanned design

I am a new user. I want to scan a continuous line design and rout this instead of it being carved. I cannot get the software to highlite the icons for routing. How do I remove any unwanted lines from the scan that I do not want in the design? How do I get rid of the invisable border on the scan, it shows up on the pattern once it is transfered to the project? I have scaned into PHOTOSUITE and saved them in PGN format I have tried cleaning up the border here but cannot.
