I've tweaked a recent project, shaved off an hour from the carve time by shallowing the carve region by .o5" and decreasing the height on a background image. The same project took 4.5 hrs yesterday.

On machine maintanence....I purchased a 1.25" vacuum hose and the small detailing attachments for computers and autos. Connected the small hose and attachments to the exhaust on my shop vac, suction side of vac is connected to the downdraft table, drape a towel over the machine so only a small area at the cover is open and use the shop vac exhaust to blow out the machine. Most gets sucked out through the bottom of the machine. While carving, the small hose is connected to the "muffler" port and vacuum(shop vac turned off). Every half hour or so, open the cover, vac out the dust, etc.

As of today, I've got 37 hours on the cut motor. So I'm still learning.

great post. Thanks for the tips. I'm on vacation all next week and plan to carve my little heart out. I'll also be looking to see how my new downdraft table works..but these tips really help a guy out. Thanks!
