In the homing routine (after the first bit is loaded), the z-truch hesitates slightly and stops just short of the bit tip locator plate. The plate does not swing out and the bit misses the plate (both times). The truck then returns and repeats the same miss. Any ideas??

tension on the belt that the truck rides on may need to be applied.....I just had this and there's a document in the "troubleshooting" forum, it's in a "sticky" thread about stuff we need to do...go check it out.

Yes, much has been written about the bit plate not functioning properly. Look in the very first thread int the troubleshooting section: http://www.carvewright.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2073, post #2 has a PDF checklist to help you find the problem.

I have found that keeping the pivot cleaned and an occasional shot of a dry plate lubricant will keep the bit plate swinging properly. I also apply 1 drop of bicycle chain wax to the contact area between the bit plate and Y-truck to help it work a bit better.

If you search for 'bit plate' you will find even more information...

Called CarveWright and went through several alternatives. Doing a "measure board" routine, found that the X and Y motors were working properly. Then used compressed air to blow out dust (little) around the bit plate. finally, checked the cut motor sensor cable (on right side, around cover) and found that it had moved to left and was preventing the z-axis motor from reaching the bit plate. Reseated the plastic holder, shoved the corregated plastic guard far right against the cover housing and problem solved. Thank the trouble shooter magician at CarveWright again.

The problem occurred again (z-truck failed to push out the bit plate. Called CarveWright and walked through alternatives as above. Found that the bit plate needed WD-40 and grease where the z-truck hit the plate. Problem solved for now.

Don't get that wd-40 on your wood, as it contains silicone which will prevent stain and finish from adhering to your wood
