I just finished changing a traction belt and now I can't crank the head down.

I moved it up to get more room while installing the belt assembly but when I went to crank it down, it just ratchets.

I checked the link rod under the machine and it's tight. It doesn't move side to side as described in the troubleshooting guide. Since CS is closed, any advice to get me running this weekend?

I think you are talking about this:
Vertical Lockup: Cranking the head beyond its highest useable
height can result in it locking in a position where the head crank cannot
lower it. Releasing from this locked position it is very easy. The
threaded head screw needs to be manually turned and can be
accessed from the inside of the machine. On this head screw, just
above the traction belts, is a hole into which an Allen wrench or similar
tool can be inserted. Using the Allen wrench as leverage, turn the
head screw a clockwise direction to unlock it.

If you go to this link and click on CarveWright Manual, and download it, you will find this section on about page 45. It will have a picture as well.

dr01allen,

Buds fix is what you need to do if you skipped a gear tooth when you cranked the head up.

If it is just tight, loosened the four top corner bolts. You will need a 10mm socket wrench. Lube the posts with dry lube if you have any else use some 3in1. Crank the head down about half way then tighten the four post bolts. Wipe off any excess oil from the posts.

Thanks Bud,

That's got it. I went through the manual and searched the forum but missed "vertical lockup".
