Here are two projects, since I was inspired by Chris in this post.
http://www.carvewright.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6268 (http://www.carvewright.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6268)

Thanks for sharing the MPC Chris. I tweaked Chris’s mpc a little to fit my Board, and was afraid how the lettering would come out being so small. After it was done I realized I couldn’t leave out the Fireman, so I sat down and started to figure out Corel. I imported an image from the web and tweaked, saved, then imported to designer. This time I figured it was time to quit wasting wood, so I added side pieces and end pieces with double sided tape and then added masking tape (first time I have done this). Overall it came out well, BUT always use a vector picture! I had pits in my edges from the pixels not being clean, I sanded and finished and will give this one to the volunteer station down the road from me. Also I used sealer on the Fireman prayer before paint, (I believe one of the Ken's posted about it). So all in all a good learning experience.

So what did I learn.
On the next two, I will add the ‘frame’ around the Policeman’s shield to use the fullest of my board.
I will vector the image for the fireman and import it again into Designer.

Thanks again Chris for the inspiration and sharing.

Very nicely done, and the text looks crisp and without any chipping.

Hi forqnc

That's a great job and I love the change in shape. Glad the MPC came in handy.

Thanks guys, I am really impressed with centerline. The pictures show them off better than the eye, this time, as there was a little chip out on both. I also believe the style of fonts have a lot to do with getting good results.
So I look forward to more practice :)

Fonts make all the difference for sure. I spent hours picking the one I used.

Thanks a lot the police one would be nice too. Being a fireman that was the main one but I have lots of police friends that would like this.

Keep up the great creations

Uh Oh, is it possible your board is a tad smaller than 3/4" causing the centerline text to carve in air? There was a post earlier last week about changing the board depth from 0.75 to 0.73 and it worked for another member.
Let us know what you find. You got me curious now

God Bless you brother! What kind of apparatus do you drive?

I ride the seat of an 105' aerial in Waterloo, IA

Most of the time I am in a 1000 gal pumper. But my official title is floater so i can be at any of 10 stations in the county. We dont have aerial units here no real need for 2 story houses LOL.. and if you go to the great strides site you can find a walk in your area hint hint :0

OK still didnt work. Could it be that it was done with centerline and I dont have centerline

ChrisAlb
04-09-2008, 01:39 PM
Yep, I'd say that's a good bet. If you highlight the text, right click and pick edit text, how is it listed in the text box, raster, outline or either?

Bubbabear
04-09-2008, 01:49 PM
it has raster marked but i can change it to outline. But looking at the design in carvewright i can barely see the print on the design there too.

ChrisAlb
04-09-2008, 01:58 PM
I'm afraid without centerline you'll have to change the text to something that works for you in either raster or outline.

Fire and Police both use "Center Line Text"

OOps, Sorry Bubbabear, I just assumed when anyone saw them they would realize to get text that small would be using Centerline.

There seem that one section of our profession gets the least recognition and that’s the ones that look out for our safety. I have been in Law Enforcement for going on 31 year and intend to retire in a few months. Over the years I have realized their importance and their emotions for our safety. The attachment is my thanks to them who sees to our safety. This is my first large carving, I have had the CW for three weeks and thank to all of you for the information about the machine. You have very informative in correcting my operator errors.:p

I thought it would be nice to be able to put a pic of the family (8x10 inset in the back of the plaque) with the prayer.

So after some thought and some math this is what we came up with. Hope that some of you can use this.

Edit, forgot to mention: we ran all of the front as a Centerline Program.

Size is 14x30, pretty good sized but not to big. Painted Red with spray paint, a little gold on the cross for good measure and then a toffee stain. Spray a little clear lacquer on top, finished.

Inset for Pic 8.5x10.5 (http://tallented.hypermart.net/ff_prayer006.JPG)

Hope this helps keep the ideas flowing......

Yes I break all their finish rules. That is Brush lacquer. I thinned with lacquer thinner and i sprayed. It is on cedar then i torched it then just a few drops of minwax cherry stain mixed in a pint of paint thinner and lightly sprayed on then the lacquer goes on

Ohhhh yeah and thanks a lot

Ok I took that picture while it was still wet. And now I am actually getting what I wanted a duller sheen. I knew it was way to glossy since all I used was sanding sealer. So slap me blonde some times

Simply spendid, Bubbabear!! I use Deft all the time on the commercial furniture I build. I thin it for spraying and apply 9 or 10 coats for a good deep finish then rub it down with 0000 steel wool and mineral oil which takes down the sharp sheen to a mellow glow that looks a yard deep.

Thanks to you all for sharing all these inventive, artistic projects,

Jerry
