Livvie (almost 3 yr old) is one of our 7 grandkids, and she is truly a "princess". So, when my wife asked me to make a headboard for her new "grown up" bed, there was really no choice as to what it would be.

This was done in one weekend in solid oak. It was finished with 5 coats of Polycrylic (water-based) and sanded between coats.

She loved it. Of course, the other six all want a custom headboard now, as well.

So many grandkids - so little time!

That turned out very nice. Nice craftsmanship.

I'm sure you are the "bestest grandpa" in Livvie's eyes.

Keep em coming.

Wow, those are both fantastic - what kind of carve time was it? Looks like a lot of material gone

The only carving was in the upper cross piece. That took about 3 hours.

FYI - the bed posts (end vertical pieces) are just oak railing half-posts I picked up at Menards. I used a 1x6 oak board for the lower cross piece. The upper was a 1x10 oak board. Everything was put together with pocket screws, which I then plugged with oak. Everything, front and back, has a nice seamless appearance.

That's beautiful.

The machine was running for 3 straight hours? I hope once mine comes back from service it can do that. Best I've ever gotten was 30 mins tops then the bits fall out or come loose. I am amazed that machine can go that long.

Very nice!

hetzerguitars, I've had an 8+ hour carve before. Someone on the forums has done a 14 hour carve.
