Rectangle & square

As a Newbie I have learned so much from this forum. Thank you, all!

My questiion: When starting a new project I want to place a rectangle on the virtual board. I cannot do this until I first click on the square option, then I can go to the rectangle option. Is this normal or some sort of software bug?

Why can't I click on the rec. and proceed to make one without first clicking on the square? What am I missing?

There is a pulldown on the tool bar beside the square tool. If you click it, it shows the options. For the square type, the options are square and rectangle. For the circle, it is circle, oval, and rectangle. etc.

After you select one, it will stay there until you select another shape of that type.

got to highlight the sqaure first and then the pull down or it won't work unless the sqaure button was already highlighted. not a bug just the way it works. i thought it was a little strange to.
