Design Help -- Importing

It appears from all the postss that on many occasions it is almost essential you have access to a good photo editing software to fine tune a picture.

I've seen references to PhotoShop, Coreldraw and Paint.net to mention a few.

I did download Paint.net but the program, in my opinion, is not for the rank amateur although it appears to be feature laden. I sure wish I could find some tutorials -- free ones.

Any suggestions about this software or other alternatives?

PhotoImpact is another great program for photo editing (used to be Ulead PhotoImpact) but is now owned by Corel, so it is Corel PhotoImpact now.

No matter what program you get, you will have a learning curve to get comfortable with it, of course.
