How does one specify what bit to use when importing a png file to use as a pattern?

You don't specify the bit when Importing a PNG to your pattern library. Once you select a pattern to cut on your board the default bit is used to carve the pattern. The default bit is the 1/16" carving bit.

You can change the default bit by right clicking on the board and legt click on Board Settings then pick in Pattern Bit tab.
