Help With Overhang Pattern

I am stuck on step 5 "create outline" I can only select one pattern at a time, but not both of them at the same time, what am I not doing rite ?

Hi,
To select both pattern at a same time hold down the Ctrl key while clicking on the second pattern. Or click, hold and drag the left mouse button on both pattern to select both.
