I created a pattern from a JPG drawing and imported it. I put it on the wood, put a circle around it and made the circle a cut path. It worked but the first thing the machine did was call for the cutting bit and homed and then found the board thickness. Once that was done it called for the carving bit, went through the same routine and proceeded to carve. Once the carving was done the machine called for the cutting bit homed and found the board thickness again.

Why does it call for the cutting bit first when it carves first?

It needs to first check each bit that is used in a project. First to make sure that you have all the bits and that all the bits seem to be the correct length (in the correct range). It would really stink to realize a few hours into a project that you incorrectly specified a bit in Designer.

Secondly it can only touch down each bit to the top of the board before you start carving. After you start carving there may not be a place left to touch down.
