i've read most of the posts about lithos and some say to covert to gray scale and invert to negative BEFORE importing into designer, while the others say to convert to gray scale, import and THEN invert using designer. is there a difference in how the two methods will produce a litho, and if so, which will produce better result?

Whatever area you want to be dark should the highest and the area you want light or white should be the lowest. The should look recessed so they should be high...so in designer they are going to like they are bugging out. I* don't convert to negative just make a pattern as usual in gray scale then import it and analyze which is going to look better the import or when inverted. It should look exactly opposite of what wood look good as a wood carving.

Hope that helps...it drove me crazy reading the posts about inversion. Then one guy told me nothing to it but to do it. once you do one you'll get the hang of it.
