I plugged the new machine in, put the card in label up, turn on the switch.
all it does is light up the display with carvewright (top line) woodworking machine (bottom line). No matter what I push nothing happens.

First, welcome. Second take the card to your machine. Open Designer and click on Help->Check for updates. Update Designer, plug your card in to the card reader, in Designer go to File->Flash manager and reformat the card. Now see if it works.
