Need help...

I found a .jpg on the internet, saved it as a .bmp and then imported it into the pattern favorites folder in designer.

When I carved it the results were less than desirable...see attached files.

I've read every post about smoothing lines and can't figure out how to do it... do I need patern editor? I do not have a probe.

.jpg Files are the worst, they may be pleasing to the eye on a monitor,
but their a mess when you try to import to be used as a carving .mpc file
.png files are one of the best the Gif, .bmp and a few other will also work.
but .jpg files are often nearly impossible to clean up. http://www.carvewright.com/forum/images/icons/icon9.gif

Thanks Ken,

but I clicked on the image and saved it as a .bmp... how do you "clean it up"

Once a file has been saved even once as a .jpg the damage is done, no matter what you save or up load it as.
Plus each time it is saved it gets progressively worst. I'm sorry to say .jpg is a poor choice to begin any carving with.

If your dead set on using that file -- try this free program to possibly help clean it up http://vectormagic.com/

I read a pdf doc by bob hill about taking jpg images into adobe photoshop and re-saving them as .png, etc (see link below) I don't have adobe but might consider getting it...
Ok, so given what you've told me, can I just go find some image on the internet and right-click, then save as .png (or whatever) and get better results?http://www.allcw.com/files/Download/Outline-Cut-Tutorial.pdf

As long as it's not listed as a .jpg on the internet, if is -- then someone already saved it as a .jpg file to post it on the site,
the damage is already done before you down load it in any form.

This is a free graphics program you can down load and use
