Pattern with some parts removed?

I'm trying to figure out how to cut a pattern with some holes.

I've tried various ways to do this but no luck in the software displays. Can someone point me in the right direction?

I've tried several things, among them:

Alpha textures
Darker holes


I can't find settings or import conditions that give me holes for the center holes.

carving like the winds grill example on the carvewright site?? if so just lower your pattern on your project board till its below the actual board and you will see the holes. you can even look at the back of the board and only see the cutthroughs. ???

little holes around the center then use the drill command.
