Just looked at your sign. On the small text I would increase the spacing to 4 and add a small draft.

Go for it! Looks great!

Ken,

I had no idea what draft was and didn't find it by trting to use help either. Still do not see what is does. I have applied it to the MPC file as suggested by hotpop. See no noticeable difference. Showing my dumb side I guess.

Don't feel bad I didn't know myself what draft meant in this context until last year.
Draft is the amount of slope or taper taken away from a (In this Case ) vertical cut and allows the cutting bit to clear the top edge of the Text font,
and helps reduce any chip out. http://www.carvewright.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif You can vary the amount of taper by using a small , medium, or large amount of draft

Thanks Ken. It is not even shown as a selection in the software manual I have. I just looked for an updated software manual on the site but don't even find the one I have. Any idea where one might be lurking bisides my website? I do not remember where I got it either. Senior moment.

Ken,

I think there is only a brief note about it in the Last Release Notes Dated
20 Dec 2007 -- Differences between versions 1.125 and 1.124
* Added new Draft option to Text and Pattern objects, to reduce chip out

When I carve with draft, it also narrows the top of the text font in Raster. Outline carve OK.

When carving raster change the depth of the lettering. In a carve region of .250 depth the default is about .125 for raster lettering, try changing the lettering from .125 to .245(left on pic). This will shallow it up and avoid chipout, where as changing it to .032(right on pic) will make it higher.

First, thanks for all the replies.

I couldn't figure out "Draft", either. Do you have to feather when using Draft - can you explain the difference? Seems like feather would accomplish the same thing, but I'm sure I'm wrong.

In my mpc, I don't have feather or draft set - seem to have my heights all messed up - the letters didn't seem to pop enough, so the large letters are set as high as they can be.

Draft works opposite of Feather. Draft refers to the amount of slope from the height of a character to the floor of the carve region. This is an exaggerated example only to make the effect more visible

From top to bottom: Draft-none, Draft-small, Draft-medium, Draft-large
