Software upgrade license problem

I have not been around for a while but I just upgraded and now it wants my id and password to activate the license. I am clueless if I have one so I went for new user and put in my machine serial number and it says that the machine is already registered. Of course it is I registered it years ago. Can some point me in the right direction I wanted to do something today?
