Hello Everyone,
I've been retired now from the Navy for about 7 months and I finally got around to encasing my 20!! The display box is made out of walnut (first time I used the CW on it and I love it). All the carvings and text where done by the CW v1.125 with no problems. The small pic of the anchors are carved on both sides of the display area.... I gotta say when I see a project like this I laugh to myself about all the nay sayers!!!
Happy Carving!!!

Very well done, DH. :) I also really like how walnut carves. Here's a commission piece I did for a friend & his organization.

DH and pkunk - Outstanding work on both projects!

My wife will retire from 30 yrs of service in the U.S. Public Health Service in about 15 months (the PHS uses Navy ranks - she's a Captain).

That display case would be perfect for her medals, etc. and would be a great retirement gift that I could make for her.

Where did you find the Caduceus medical symbol pattern?

Very Nice WORK !!!!!!!

I ran into this guy on the Sawmill Laser Forum and he has a Fantastic Website with a GREAT NAVY SEA CHEST design. He Laser Engraves them but a Carved Version would be very nice. Also a Retired Navy Guy in a position to get some excellent business with the Fantastic Quality of his product.

Worth a look. I have PM'ed him and he is a great guy.

That's the kind of shop and work I want to do someday when I grow up.

Senior Chief,
That is absolutely beautiful. 7 months? WOW, that makes me feel old, I retired 7 years ago.

Hey Doc, (I assume you were an FMF Corpsman) that's some Very nice work. Very nice....

Well welcome to retirement... I retired from the Marine Corps 27 years ago....Sometimes it just seems like yesterday.:D I hope you had a easier time adjusting than I did... Civilians are take some time to get use to, that's for sure...and I'm not there yet...

Anyway, glad you made it... Let's see some more of that fine work..soon..

Take care,

Thank you everyone for your comments. Both for the shadow box and my service. Now I enjoy thanking others for their service.

The shadow box in this post is going into a store front... I'm working on the one that will be in my office. Below is a sneak peek.

DirtyDan, I had the honor to serve as a FMF corpsman with 2nd FSSG, 26th MEU during the first gulf war.
