I thought I had this figured out but didnt work when I carved it. All I want to do is make an oval, Put a name inside it, but not have the CW cut out the oval, just make an outline so I can cut it later and then rout and edge see attached.
Thanks

shoe2728,

Like this, just add a bit to carve it

You need to click on the inner circle, and remove the carve region. Then the machine will carve out "John" and the holly. To cut the outline, click on the circle and select a bit and then a depth.

Hey Shoe
What I do a lot is --lets say on your oval , select the outer most diameter you want , select a bit, I usually use the 1/8" cutting bit set at about .020 . Just enough to make an outline so I can cut it on the scrollsaw.

Hi Jhon

Well the answers you got are all good ones it seems and you didn't ask about this but I'll throw it out for your consideration. This is something I learned as a DIe Maker when using a saw to cut out detials. If your saw blade is 1/16" lets say then make a double line 3/32" wide so that you can run your saw blade inbetween them. You'll be pleasntly supprise how much more precise you can be with you finished cut.
