Sled wall measurements

I am putting together the sled and need to know what are the max measurements for the walls.

seems you know something about sleds so maby you can help.
1.I select a board for the sled say 3/4 12x12,call it the sled
2.I select a 1/4" board to put a pattern on, call it the board
3.I glue the board to the sled Where is the best location?
4.I jog the board under the measuring probe, The machine now thinks I have a 1" board, 12x12
5.In the drawing I have located the pattern on the board,not the sled.
6. only problem is I cannot use the cut tool because it will cut through the board and the sled.

The other possiability is that I tell the machine that the board is only 1/4" thick. The machine measures the top of the board and proceeds as if the board were supended in air.
We have a new 4" of snow and it is 14 deg so I can't try the machine today
