So did I until I talked to my son who is a student at UW Madison. He said students often can get a reduced rate on software through the university.

He got me the Student/Teacher version for $35! :D I am just totally impressed on the difference it makes in smoothing out carvings.

So if you know a student maybe you can get a deal like this.

Happy holidays.

I just bought CoralDraw X3 (4 CDs) in a sealed full retail box (not student, NFR or OEM) with Authenticity number. It registered just fine with CoralDraw. I paid $87 which I don't think is too bad considering what the package can do.

Now all I have to do is learn how to use it!!

Bought mine on E-Bay and paid $79 + $3.99 shipping. Full retail X-3 version sealed in box. I love it.

Ron,

I too bought mine off of eBay. No problem with install or on-line registration.

Now I'm looking for a good book or tutorial on learning this software. There's a lot to it from what I have seen so far.

Is that the program I need to convert a picture into a true pattern instead of the junk I get now?

I'm still leaning to use Corel Draw also, but it is making a world of difference so far. I am already able to turn 2-D text into nice smooth 3-D after using it only a week.

If you look on e-bay - you can get a Corel package that is one or two versions old for a low price. A few years ago I got a NEW Corel 9 for a few $
when Corel 11 came out. I picked up 11 a while back the same way.

What I still need is a good tutorial on how to take a jpg, png or gif and get a nice 3d pattern - I am learning, but tips are helpfull.

Once you get Corel Draw, take a look at this link. I have found the videos to be extremely helpful.

I highly recommend Jon Jantz's Corel Draw tutorials that are geared towards the CarveWright. http://allcw.com/Tutorials.html
