Carving ovals?

Yesterday while carving an oval in a cutting board the machhine was under such a strain that at flexshaft popped out of the z truck. Needless to say this messed up the dementions and the placement of the rest of the carving; however while carving the oval later the machines flex shaft (while not popping out this time) was vibrating and jumping around like crazy.


Is this normal?

How deep are you trying to carve?
I assume you are useing the carveing bit that came with your machine.

.25 inches. I am using the 1/2 inch bullnose bit.
