Nice work! I'm a big fan of dragons, so its great to see others on here exploring the possibilites on the CC. Curious how it would look in some purpleheart or bloodwood.

did you just use a scroll saw or something to cut it out of the board, or how did you do that?

The project board was 3/4'', the carving was around 11/16" deep.
Cut out and trim it with a razor knife, then a little sanding on the edges
and its ready for finishing.

Read your post on removing pattern with a razor blade, I've done carvings that needed to remove excessive board from the pattern... If your using 3/4" board, take a piece of 1/4" Luan the same size as the 3/4" using double sided tape making it now a 1" board, set your board layout to 1", now set carving depth to 0.750 in designer, make sure your double sided tape is also under the pattern to be carved. ( Don't use long strips of tape use only small pieces). Once you carved your patten , it will be free from the excess wood... Hope this helps..

Hi Rick,

The tape mounting works great, I've used it many, many times.
But this time being less than 1/16" I got a little lazy and just razored it out.
plus it gave me an excess to under chip cut and sand the carving
to make it look a little more 3 dimensional. http://www.carvewright.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif

Thanks for the kind words, I was just reposting the Dragon, that I like and carved for a plaque.
I think all credit for the photo and mpc file should go to the original carver.
It was posted in Aug these year by "Autobody" a fellow member on this forum, a very talented carver.

Hey Pianoman,

I was saying the project board was 3/4" thich and the carving of the dragon was a little more then 11/16" thick,
so there was a bit less then 1/16" of stock holding it to the project board not much more then paper thick,
but enough to hold it in place and could easily be cut out with a razor blade, box cutter, or Exact-O Hobby knife. http://www.carvewright.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif

Although I'll thank Autobody for the spectacular design separately (How'd I miss that?), your rendering of the design turned out very nicely. I'm sure that even nice designs can be destroyed by bad use of materials, finish, etc. You've got a lovely piece there. Good stuff.

Ken thanks for posting this. I am trying to carve it now the carve bit is almost all the way to the end but I don't see any part of the pat yet? I shut it down came in to reload it thinking maybe SW did like Brandons flute the 1st time. It just did some of the carve when reloaded it did fine. should never upgrade or buy the fist year anything lol
