How do I remove background from stenciled pic

Hi everybody,

I have a papercutting design that I have removed all of the background from with an exacto knife. All of the pieces are connected and I scanned the image and opened a new project in my cw program. How do I make the program get rid of the background in the picture?

I cant figure out how to put a photo of it in here to show you

OOOPS nevermind, I just figured it out, I outlined the pattern. One more wrinkle in my CW brain
