I Read The Announcement From Carvewright
Not To Exceed 3/4 Depth With The Carving Bit.
How Did The Carve Of The Nra Plaque Work That Was Made With A Carve Depth Of .80

Papawbummie,

This does not address your post directly,but..!
Here is a site that offers a one-inch-flute carving bit.

http://www.frezycnc.pl/solidcarbidetoolscarvingtools-20_85.html

I know nothing about the company or the product other than it should work.

I'm the guy that posted the NRA plaque with the .8 carve depth. I also read the post about the 3/4 max depth after I carved the plaque and I guess this is one of those cases where I didn't know I couldn't do that and did it. Of course we're only talking about .05 over the recommended max depth too.

The problem with trying to carve deeper is that you can bury the tool if your not careful. The project has to be designed in such a way to insure that the shank of the carving bit does not contact the wood. You can imagine that if one tried to carve a hole just slightly bigger than the bit itself and 1" deep, if the bit then tried to move sideways you would be in trouble. If however you were carving something with a slope there would be less chance that the bit would get buried.
